Beyond the Image

Images are everywhere. With images, artists and video game creators go from imagination to reality. Police officers use them to trace criminals or to recreate three dimensional images of crime scenes. Astronomers and doctors use images to tell our universe’s history and diagnose diseases with greater precision. How is all this possible?

Beyond Images is an interactive exhibition that demystifies digital imaging and presents some of its applications. Three dimension images, interactive images, generated images, synthetic images, modeling... the progress of sciences and technologies have provided artists, doctors and engineers with fantastic work tools. The exhibition presents different applications, including a medical laboratory and a module allowing you to hide a top secret message in an image. In our everyday life, the digital boom is most observable through the ever growing performances of computer hardware as well as through the entertainment industry, namely cinema, video games and photography. Many multimedia artists participated in this exhibition, thus contributing to create a scenographic universe that is both artistic and technologic.
